Plant-based friends, you’re in such good hands when it comes to vegetarian and vegan food in Singapore.

Generally speaking, I find that many Asian cuisines, which usually feature a lot of vegetables as it is, and interesting ones at that, are perfect for vegetarian eaters. And in a place such as the Lion City, where there’s (a) such a diverse cultural scene and (b) so many restaurants, you’re spoiled for choice (!), I’d have to say it’s one of our top Southeast Asia destinations for plant-based food

Whether you’re in the mood for local, Japanese, Korean, Vietnamese, or Western fusion, here are my 8 best vegetarian restaurants in Singapore. Please, do enjoy. But, more importantly, please make sure you try each of these restaurants and let us know which one you like best!

Curious to learn more about vegetarian culture in Singapore? I absolutely love this locally-guided plant-based tour across Singapore!

1. Ki Su Shoujin Omakase: A fine dining experience

When I talk about the best vegetarian restaurants in Singapore, I really mean THE BEST. Ki Su Shoujin Omakase is right up there– it has even been recognized by the Michelin Guide

Moreover, it’s the world’s first-ever official fine-dining plant-based omakase

Designed as an authentic omakase-type experience, every single plate presented in front of you during the seating is 100% meatless. Sometimes, it’s quite hard to believe; the innovation is that good! Not only inspired by Japanese, but the cuisine is also a combination of this as well as French cuisine

What I love most about Ki Su is the artistic vision behind every dish. It’s one of those foodie experiences that when the plate lands on your table, the food in front of you is (almost) too pretty to eat! Some examples of the courses? A delicate beetroot cigar, chickpea taco, and egg yolk toast. Or, for the sushi, fish is replaced with capsicum, eggplant, pumpkin puree, and shimeiji mushrooms – but you’d never guess it!

2. Yi Xin Vegetarian: Drool-worthy

When we’re in Singapore, a visit for us isn’t complete without a trip to Yi Xin Vegetarian

It’s a fuss-free setup, but we’ve often found that these are where you typically find the most delicious and authentic foods. Among the best vegetarian restaurants in Singapore, this one definitely lives up to such expectations. I have literally landed in Singapore and made Yi Xin my first stop (with luggage and all!).

A local hotspot for sure, we love how affordable the menu is, portion sizes are very generous, and Yi Xin offers a combination of vegetarian and vegan choices.

Like what, you may ask? Dumplings, bao buns, black pepper udon noodles, laksa, sweet and sour vibes, and mango salted “chicken.” Mouths watering yet? But whatever you do, don’t miss out on their char kway teo (or CKT) noodles…

3. Moon Chay Vegetarian: For Vietnamese

Bringing you the tastes of Ho Chi Minh City, Moon Chay Vegetarian is run by Julia Nguyen, where dishes aren’t just vegetarian, but a lot of them are vegan, too.

Local tip: Discover the 11 Best Vegetarian Restaurants in Ho Chi Minh City

One dish to try? Their signature vegan crab noodles, made from a soy-based vegan “crab” paste and classic vegetables you’d find in Vietnam, all served in a stone bowl. More authentic dishes to try that will transport you are the signature broken rice with vegan ribs and pork patties; stone bowl Hue vegan beef noodle; pho; spring rolls with vermicelli, and the chao hotpot set

I lived in Hanoi for seven years, and whilst the flavors differ in the north to the south, everything about this spot takes me straight back to the local restaurants– low tables, plastic chairs, the sounds of chi ois shouting from the roadside, and all.

4. Ahimsa Sanctuary: For Ayurvedic-based vegetarian

Built on a foundation of Ayurvedic principles, Ahimsa Sanctuary is so much more than just one of the best vegetarian restaurants in Singapore. Its concept is the type you find in Bali, Northern Thailand, and Goa, where it’s a restaurant-meets-wellness space-meets yoga studio

For anyone unfamiliar with Ayurvedic medicine/philosophies, it’s about eating foods that nourish and heal the body, specifically those that balance the body’s three doshas (known as Vata, Pitta, and Kapha). At Ahimsa, their whole foods menu strongly features ayurvedic herbs and spices.

This includes juices and tonics, and all of their food is free of mock meats, refined sugars, or seed oils.

5. WakaMama: Izakaya-style

Honestly speaking, I am not surprised that there are quite a few Japanese eateries in the city making waves when it comes to the best vegetarian restaurants in Singapore. Whilst I’ve only included two spots, trust me, there are more. But it makes sense to me, really, as Japanese cuisine can easily adapt (and impress) when turning it plant-based

The pillars of this vegan Japanese omakase restaurant, WakaMama, are centered on plant-based whole food. Plus, their menu contains zero gluten. And how cool: they even do a high tea

Its setting is very much a casual izakaya style (so more relaxed than fine-dining Ki Su Shoujin).

One of their specialities is handmade pasta/noodles in various forms: matcha pasta (tossed in a light jicama tofu sauce), miso carbonara tagliatelle, “prawn” raviolo with a kimchi sauce, and caramelle pasta served with kefir corn cheese and smoked eggplant puree. I also love the plant-based gyozas and their desserts, such as pumpkin pie vegan gelato – YUM!

6. The Boneless Kitchen: Divine Korean food

How clever is The Boneless Kitchen’s name? I find it such an intelligent play on words, because no meat equals no bones. As if we didn’t have enough variety as it is (oh, Singapore, I love this about you), at this restaurant, it’s a Korean veggie feast comprising the menu!

I have a newfound appreciation for Korean cuisine (and I think the world does, too) after gobbling up two addictive seasons of Netflix’s Korean Culinary Class Wars

Everything here is 100% plant based, whether talking kimbap, a rolled omelette, rabokki (a ramen done with chewy rice cakes), or sundubu (extra soft tofu). With a strong city presence, they’ve been around for 10 years.

7. Whole Earth: Michelin Bib Gourmand Winners

Seven-time Michelin Bib Gourmand champion (awarded to affordable eateries with consistently high-quality meals), Whole Earth has earned itself the title since 2016.

Venturing around Singapore, you might have heard the term ‘Peranakan’ widely used, whether by locals or when researching local attractions. It’s a huge part of the city’s culture, and it is actually one of Singapore’s prominent cultures. It refers to mixed Chinese, Indonesian, and Malaysian immigrants who came to the island way back.

At Whole Earth, the cuisine fuses Peranakan with Thai cuisine. It’s a genius concept. They do their own meat-free versions of classics, like Tau Kwa Pok and La Zi Ji. More mouth-watering options include the ‘crispy crackling yammy roll,’ ‘harvest mushroom soup,’ and the ‘handmade yam treasure ring.’

8. Tofu G: Plant-based gelato

Desserts are my kryptonite, and if there’s one sweet treat among them all that I cannot resist, it’s gelato…Middle of winter? Don’t care. Give it to me

I can get right onboard with Tofu Gplant-based gelato made from…you guessed it, tofu! I can very much understand the idea of creamy gelato made from tofu, as tofu does lend that extremely soft and creamy texture

The shop is designed with Japanese aesthetics, and you can order your ice cream scooped or as a soft serve (for certain flavors only). Speaking of, these are original tofu gelato, high protein tofu gelato, black sesame (divine), Korean sweet potato, chodang sweet corn, and pistachio (my husband’s favorite).

Singapore’s cafe scene is on par with the likes of Bangkok and Kuala Lumpur. Here are my 10 Best Cafes in Singapore for Food and Drinks. From kaya toast to classic fry-ups, these are 9 Best Breakfast spots in Singapore.
