Searching for a sweet beach escape or at least to dip your toes into the ocean in Thailand? If you’re heading to Pattaya, you’re probably seeking out the best beaches in Pattaya, right?

Now as a coastal resort (and not an island), you’re getting a very unique beach experience in Pattaya. Don’t come here expecting a hidden-away, remote (read: rough) destination. Pattaya is one of the stars of Thailand’s beach scene and for very good reason!

One of the reasons I love Pattaya is that it’s so close to Bangkok, which makes it ideal for a quick, easy beach escape. Better yet, if you have spent the last month in the north in places like Chiang Mai or Pai, Pattaya is a welcome escape.

Sometimes, us mermaids will take whatever we can get, no matter the color of the sand or ocean. It’s that saltwater and TLSea which matters most! With that, let’s dive in to the best beaches in Pattaya.

Before you go: Where to stay in Pattaya

When visiting Pattaya, I always recommend staying centrally. This way, you’re only a short tuk tuk ride to all of the best hotels in Pattaya.

My new favorite hotel on the Pattaya scene has to be the gorgeous (and brand new) Meliá Pattaya Hotel. With all the amenities you expect from a high-quality, international standard plus a brand new pool and one of our favorite restaurants in Pattaya. You really can’t go wrong here.

Best beaches in Pattaya

1. Wong Amat Beach: Family-friendly

If you’re here with your children, you might prefer Wong Amat Beach. I think it’s one of the best beaches in Pattaya for families. Albeit it is small (the beach itself is roughly a one-kilometer stretch), and there is no main promenade that runs alongside it, there are dedicated outlined bays; the water is calm; and so are the crowds!

Plus, with its crescent moon-shaped bay, the coastline stares back at you which makes you feel away from the city. There are some rock pools, and tall palms providing shade. I’d recommend you arrive early to secure your spot!

The area around here is also one of the nicest in Pattaya.

2. Dong Tan Beach: Great for tanning and chilling uninterrupted

Set up for your beach day in between the tall palm trees dotting the shoreline at Dong Tan Beach — it ever so slightly reminds me of Phuket’s Kamala Beach. But of course, the beach itself (in terms of water and sand color is totally Pattaya-esque).

Sun loungers are available for rent and you’ll find local restaurants for Thai and seafood. The shallow bay has a buoy-lined border for swimming. It tends to be not as busy, and the water isn’t dirty because there aren’t any crazy speedboats, etc. around.

3. Cosy Beach: Lovely for swimming

When it’s not peak season, Cosy Beach is one of the best beaches in Pattaya for some chill time without any noise interruptions. That being said, the Cosy Beach Hotel is located behind the beach, so when it is season, expect a more bustling shoreline!

Whatever the case, this semi-circle-shaped bay is a lovely beach for swimmers, with flat waters and soft sands. Thanks to its shape, it stays protected from waves, as well as an influx of any other local boats speeding in. Both couples and families will enjoy this one! And there are one or two restaurants here for refreshments and munchies.

4. Naklua Beach: Off the radar

Rows of Thai fishing boats are one of the first things to greet you when you get down to the minute Naklua Beach. Then, to the left-hand side is the iconic Sanctuary of Truth perched on the coastline — one of the unmissable (and iconic) things to do in Pattaya! It’s less than a ten-minute drive away, or under 30 minutes if walking — the scenic route.

If you’re after a typical beach vibe comprising a day full of swimming, eating, and water sports, then this definitely isn’t the spot! Rather, it is among the best beaches in Pattaya if you’re after a moment of zen on your own or with your partner. It’s quite rocky in some parts, but it’s a lovely spot away from people where you can pretend to be a sun lizard, journal, or work on your tan

5. Jomtien Beach: Super central vibes

While Jomtien Beach technically forms part of the main Pattaya Beach, it’s about three kilometers down the line from the city’s busiest beach. However, I’m not including Pattaya Beach on this list of the best beaches in Pattaya. Yes, yes, it may be the most central and busiest, however, it’s not like the most “wow” beach you’ve ever seen either! It’s always crowded, especially at night, and the sand and ocean are nothing to rave about. There are beach activities available though.

Jomtien on the other hand is quieter and has sun loungers/umbrellas for rent. There are also a bunch of resorts built across the road from the beach.

Best island beaches near Pattaya

I’m asking you to hear me out on this one. In my opinion, Pattaya is great and everything for a “beach escape” from Bangkok, especially if you live in the capital city. The beaches, in general, are gorgeous. However, if you truly are after those Thai island beach vibes, then there are two islands a stone’s throw from Pattaya — and by stone’s throw, I mean like a literal 20-minute speedboat ride away (which isn’t long at all). You’ll soon realize why I consider these the best beaches in Pattaya. You can thank me later!

6. Samae Beach, Koh Larn: Great for snorkeling

Soft sands and an ocean that looks the color of a water painting, you won’t want to ever leave Samae Beach if you ask me! And yes, the sea here is transparent (insert heart eyes emoji).

Situated on the west side of the island, it’s favored by travelers to the island and there are always beach-goers around. There are epic beach bars, restaurants, beach stalls, and someone always watersporting, from parasailing to snorkeling! Expect warm, tropical waters and it’s an amazing beach for frolicking in the water all day. Of the best beaches in Pattaya and the islands, it’s a top contender for the very best beach in Pattaya.

Travel tip: Koh Larn is a 25-minute boat ride from Pattaya. If this sounds like a hassle, I love this tour which takes care of all the logistics for you.

7. Tien Beach, Koh Larn: The island’s bluest waters

If it’s your first time in the Land of Smiles and you’re desperately seeking that quintessential beach experience where the waters are soooo blue you have to pinch yourself to believe it’s real, then Tien Beach is where it’s at!

It is the smallest beach on the isle, but this also means it is the most untouched. The sands are powder soft, and it’s another locale that’s excellent for snorkeling thanks to its water visibility.

The largest and most popular beach on Koh Larn is Tawaen Beach

In terms of what’s around, many of the fancier restaurants, shops, and stays are around this part!

8. Koh Sak Island: Private yacht vibes

Just 20 minutes from Pattaya, and often included as part of snorkeling excursions from the city, Koh Sak Island is tiny, and the island’s main landing beach is where you’ll spend your beach-day time.

The water is like a see-through swimming pool, and many refer to it as a lake. When you catch a glimpse, you’ll totally understand why! A thriving coral reef surrounds the island, too. But please remember to be respectful of underwater life if you’re snorkeling these parts.

You can also charter a private yacht/boat here if you wish, or join a private boat tour around the ‘Coral Islands.’ The distance between Koh Sak and Koh Larn is approximately 600 meters apart. And, in fact, Koh Sak is the closest island to Pattaya. If you get the chance, you can’t miss it as part of the best beaches in Pattaya, especially if you’re looking for something a little extra to do during your time here!

Off to Bangkok next? As one of the most visited destinations in the world, it can be quite daunting planning your way around the city. Here’s a super-cool 2-day Bangkok itinerary to set you in the right direction.
