Whether it’s your first or fifth time in Berlin’s hippest neighborhood, I find I never have enough time to eat all my favorite restaurants in Berlin. I visit Berlin very often (is there such thing as too often?) and, unquestionably, Prenzlauer Berg is quickly becoming my favorite neighborhoods to dine in Berlin (don’t tell Friedrichshain).

Prenzlauer Berg is where trendy young families and creative professionals have made their home, and every cobblestone street reveals some new food-centric discovery. I love the eclectic mix of third-wave coffee shops, organic bistros, and authentic international eateries – including many of Berlin’s most innovative brunch spots. In my opinion, Prenzlauer Berg offers the ideal balance between bustling energy and calm neighborhood charm.

Prenzlauer Berg was not always a hip place, in fact it only transformed into a hip area for well-to-do families in the last few decades. Walking the streets, you’ll find Wilhelminian style buildings, picturesque squares and plenty of green spaces (don’t forget to check out Mauerpark on a Sunday).

With that, here are my 6 best restaurants in Prenzlauer Berg, Berlin for 2025.

1. Dr Maury Wine Bar

Does it get any more Berlin than a casual neighborhood wine bar?

Dr Maury Wine Bar offers modern fusion-style, French cuisine with the ideal wine pairings. I love how their menu is small (always a good sign) and full of seasonal options (an even better sign). My personal go-to order is the ouef cocotte with truffle oil, which hits all the right spots as you dip hot bread into it. For something a bit more hearty, the gnocchi à la forestière will leave you feeling all the cozy autumn vibes which Berlin does so well.

Among the best restaurants in Prenzlauer Berg, Berlin, this is a restaurant you should go with a number of friends. You’ll certainly want to order everything to share! As expected, the wine list is extensive and offers delicious pairings for all the food on the menu. If in doubt, be sure to ask the waiter for their recommendations.

2. Osman’s Töchter

Founded by sisters Arzu and Lale, Osman’s Töchter literally translates to ‘Osman’s daughters’. If you’ve traveled to Istanbul, or have any Turkish friends, this homey restaurant is immediately reminiscent of the communal food experience associated with Turkish cuisine.

The menu is divided into two main parts. First, the warm and cold mezzes which feature traditional classics such as Pide, Manti, Borek but also modern takes on Turkish flavors such as Turkish Ceviche and Osmanin Kebab and Lamb Ragu with fig. I will be honest: I find the mezzes here a little on the smaller side. This means, I always recommend ordering a generous among (at least two mezze per person).

Putting aside the best restaurants in Prenzlauer Berg, Osman’s Töchter is easily one of the best restaurants for refined Turkish food in Berlin. In recent years, the secret has come out. Osman’s Töchter has become increasingly popular and you’ll want to reserve in advance.

3. Chutnify

I am going to make a bold claim here, but I think, generally speaking, the standard of Indian food in Berlin is extremely low. And that’s exactly where Chutnify comes to save the day!

Right here in Prenzlauer Berg, Chutnify offer an array of regional Indian delicacies. My friends swear by the butter chicken, but my personal favorite is the chilli cheese dosa. In my opinion, a good dosa is just as crispy outside as it is flavourful inside. You’ll also want to try the unique gobi naanwich: a sandwich made with naan and deliciously spiced cauliflower, yogurt sauce and chutneys inside.

4. Restaurant Pasternak

If you’ve never been exposed to Russio-Jewish cuisine, I’d recommend making a stop at the unique Restaurant Pasternak. Named for the author of Doctor Zhivago, stepping into Pasternak is like entering a time capsule. A wood-panelled bar and low-hanging chandeliers quickly transports you to the glamorous Russia of yesteryear.

Turning to the cuisine, I love Pasternak’s take on Syrniki, Blinchiki and Zavtrak. You’ll find a large menu with several options for breakfast, brunch, lunch and dinner (i.e. you can come eat here whenever). The portion sizes are generous and hearty.

As a general rule though, I tend to avoid coming during weekends as Pasternak can be very popular!

5. Wen Cheng

You’ll find two branches of Wen Cheng in Prenzlauer Berg, a testament to just how popular this restaurant is in the area. If you know me, you’ll know that quality Chinese food is my weakness. Wen Cheng’s is the ultimate spot for hand-pulled noodles in Berlin. This restaurant specializes in Biang Biang noodles, which are famous for their thick and long strand noodles. Everyone seems to order their Biang Biang beef noodles, although I lean towards the excessive vegetarian options on offer.

If you’re after a spicier choice, go for the Biang Biang noodles rather than the Wen Cheng noodles. Don’t forget to add their homemade nutty chilli sauce to your noodles.

Wen Cheng don’t take reservations and you’ll generally find a queue out the door. But, don’t worry, the queue moves fast and you’re usually at your table within 20 minutes.

6. Kanaan

There’s no shortage of high quality Middle Eastern food in Berlin. But Kanaan is a particularly special restaurant – perhaps one of the most unique restaurants in the world. In one of those ‘only in Berlin’ moments, Kanaan offers a combined, completely vegetarian, Israeli and Palestinian restaurant.

With both lunch and dinner menus, I’m a big fan of Kanaan for whatever kind of meal you’re looking for. From more casual mezze and hummus bowls, to falafel from a unique family recipe, Kanaan is wholesome and tasty. With one bite, you’ll quickly be transported to the backstreets of Tel Aviv or Ramallah. For a more unique dish, I recommend the Mediterranean knödel which comes with chilli and yogurt (vegan alternatives are available).

In case a peace-focused coop wasn’t enough, Kanaan proudly employs refugees from across the Middle East and Africa. Beyond being one of the best restaurants in Prenzlauer Berg, Kanaan is just an excellent initiative, period.
