Sometimes, you find yourself in a country where there isn’t always an overload of vegan options. This shouldn’t be a factor stopping you from exploring the world. As more of society becomes a little more plant-based conscious, you’ll usually vegan options in most places — well, at least one or two.
In a destination such as Italy, pasta (containing eggs) and pizza (made with cheese) are two of the most popular foods — and no, this is not a cliche! Oh, and did I forget to mention gelato (made from milk — that’s me crying). Of course, Italian cuisine is not limited to just these foods. You’ll still find so many vegetables and fresh salads around. But a lot of times, this is eaten as part of antipasti, and there aren’t necessarily full-on vegan meals.
There are vegans in Italy, who have lately been paving the way for vegan options of Italian classics! Plus, there are now vegan spots in most cities with fusion twists.

1. ORA: Be here now for the vegan charcuterie board
Now (see what I did there; ‘ora’ is the Italian word for ‘now’), this is certainly one of the most creative vegan restaurants in Florence, where you’ll want to spend lunch or your dinner hour plans! You definitely don’t feel as if you’re missing out on any of the country’s classics – whether pasta, risotto, dessert, or wine! Okay, okay I know wine isn’t non-vegan, but the list at this spot is incredible!
Whilst ORA isn’t 100% vegan, this 100% vegetarian restaurant is all about the meat-free way of living. The seasonal menu here follows the ‘natural cycle of fruit and vegetables present in Italy’. And I’m all here for it! Of course, ingredients are sustainable and ethically sourced. When I was vegetarian, this was one of the most important factors for me!

A must-try is the gazpacho (if you like cold tomato soup), with burrata and crispy thin bread shards. It’s as pretty as it is delicious — especially in summer. They even have an antipasti vegan charcuterie board. You’d swear the “mortadella” was actual cured pork ham!
2. #Raw Vegan Firenze: For the gluten-free traveler
If you’re not just vegan but also suffer from gluten intolerances, #Raw has got your back! And in a country like Italy, i.e., the land of pizza and pasta, pretty much everything contains gluten. That makes it even more wonderful to find a spot catering to gluten-intolerant eaters but which still lets you enjoy the good stuff!
This vegan bistro doesn’t however just offer you all-Italian cuisine, and there are also dishes inspired by global countries — especially Bali. Take the vegan pad Thai (I know this is from Thailand) for example, topped with butternut shavings. More yummies which you must try include the chickcheese pizza, Caprese noodles, frittasandwich, and plenty of sweet desserts.

And if you’re on the breakfast run, they do smoothie bowls here, too, and obviously a cafe with milk alternative options (amazing). They double as a bistro and smoothie bar making them one of the best vegan restaurants in Florence for any time of day!
Travel tip: I’m lactose intolerant and I really struggle to find many places which do milk alternatives. (I’m a huge almond milk gal, I don’t like soy. In Florence I found one or two spots but these were at modern trendy cafes. If you’re struggling and are a coffee fiend like me, the best thing to do is just stick to an espresso, or make that a double!
3. Nirvana: Generational Recipes
Like many fantastic Italian restaurants, the dishes from Nirvana’s kitchen are generational recipe secrets, whether it’s the pizza, gnocchi (highly recommend), or pasta you’re talking about! Heck, you can even indulge in the city’s famous “Bistecca alla Fiorentina” but, of course, this is totally plant-based and made from seitan (although at first glance, you do question if it’s meat!).

It’s a wonderful spot if you’re a mixed bunch of eaters, so if there are carnivores and vegans, because you don’t feel like you’re missing out on the meat for most dishes, or there are the alternatives for those classic Florentine must-haves!
I also love that there are loads of traditional pasta dishes here! Because have you truly traveled to Italy if you haven’t eaten pasta? Now that’s crazy talk!
4. Tripperia Vegana TAN8: The iconic street food gone vegan
Did you know that one of the most famous street food in Florence is the panino con il lampredotto? So, — and if you’re so vegan you can’t stand the thought of anything meat, skip this part — it’s a sandwich made from tripe, i.e., cow’s stomach lining. This is thinly sliced and added to a round semella bun.

Tripperia Vegana TAN8’s concept is super cool! It takes this iconic Florentine street food and turns it on its head! Why? It’s a 100% vegan version of the panino con il lampredotto comprising veggies only, so like vegetable “offal.”

And get this, this spot’s nickname is the “flying vegan.” That’s because the chef delivers the sandwich from the top of a balcony…via a basket…which he swings down for you. Talk about an epic foodie experience in Florence.
5. Le Fate Bistrot: Eat according to your zodiac sign
For those who know me well enough know just how into my esoteric things I am, and I’m also qualified in reiki — so I fully believe in this world. I also believe that fairies are real — judge as you may. If you’re similar to me in that way, feel right at home at Le Fate Bistrot!
Not only is this pure Italian bistro 100% vegan, and 100% all about traditional Tuscan cuisine, but is also 100% about believing in a little bit of magic and the stars, galaxies, and universes beyond us. It’s without a doubt one of the most unique vegan restaurants in Florence to visit!

Here, dishes are concocted around the 12 star signs (with illustrations of each decorating the walls). For example, if you’re a libra, Fairy Serenella (the owner) has crafted a meal which best suits your zodiac sign. You’ll also uncover the secrets of the Major Arcana (tarot believers will get the reference) with different meals, and there are also special tarot evenings hosted here.
But it’s not all gimmicks and this restaurant is award-winning, too, and voted one of the top 10 best vegetarian restaurants in Florence. But it is vegan only.
6. Giumella Sano Vegano Toscano: Perfect for a picnic date in the park
You should know before arriving here that Giumella Sano Vegano Toscano is a takeaway sort of setup only. When you walk inside, all of the vegan foods are lined up alongside a countertop.
You’ll choose what you want to eat and how much of it portion-wise, which is then weighed and priced per weight. Sometimes though I honestly prefer this style. I am, like, the most indecisive person on this planet, and often prefer a deli-type option where I can try, taste, and savor a little bit of everything.

Planning a picnic? This is a perfect option as well, and you can compile your own picnic basket of delicious vegan goods. Breads, dips, baked vegetable casserole-type dishes, fresh salads — it offers an amazing selection. Also good to know: their seitan is produced with stone-ground Tuscan durum wheat semolina and lentils, and the vegan cheese selection is made from nuts or soy milk. Try the soy ricotta gnocchi if it’s available!
7. Atomic Falafel: Fresh and authentic
Oh, man, I really love falafels! Even when I’m entertaining at home, you’ll always find a bowl or rather make that, funky decorated ceramic of falafels on my table.
Also, I’ve always loved just how filling these chickpea balls of goodness are, and even if you are a meat-eater and just in the mood for a plant-based option, you always feel really satisfied afterward.

Atomic Falafel presents you with classic Middle Eastern street food — falafels included, obviously! Expect all the delicious classics such as pita bread and other varieties, hummus and other dips (like baba ganoush), fried veggies from eggplant slices to deep-fried cauliflower, and if you’ve got a sweet tooth, don’t forgo the baklava!
Of the best vegan restaurants in Florence, this is the spot for falafels, people.
8. Il Vegano: The first vegan restaurant in Firenze
Vegan: burgers, lasagna (made with seitan regu); radicchio and mushroom risotto; organic chickpea, carrot, and potato soup; gluten-free pasta; raw zucchini pasta; pea flour omelet; paninis; vegetable stews; and some international favorite classics (like cottage pie made from soy tempeh, eggplant parmesan with vegan cheese, and seitan goulash). In case it isn’t yet clear, this is one of the vegan restaurants in Florence which seems to have it all!

As Florence’s first-ever 100% vegan restaurant, Il Vegano has had time to perfect the menu, and they’re always abuzz. The staff are friendly and prices are affordable.
Plus, the whole atmosphere is unpretentious and intimate and I love the art portraits splashed across the walls. Stop and enjoy a fab vegan meal, with a glass of crisp white wine!
9. Su Guan: In the mood for Asian?
Keen to try some of the vegan restaurants in Florence that aren’t Italian? Su Guan is an oriental celebration of Chinese cuisine, but of course, everything vegan-friendly.
A few years back it was also vegetarian (because some dishes contained egg), but, now it’s totally vegan.

Think kimchi pancakes, bibimbap, dumplings, vegetables and tofu (everyone goes gaga for the spicy tofu and eggplant), and other classic Chinese dishes but the meat is replaced with seitan. Although it’s considered a “Chinese restaurant” you’ll find many dishes from other parts of Asia, too.
If you’re not 100% vegan and on the hunt for the rest of the city’s must-try eateries, I can personally testify to these best restaurants in Florence, many of which I keep returning to again and again!
